Welcome to WESTCAS - The Western Coalition of Arid States
Background
The Arid west has a unique ecosystem. Many months have no rain, and annual precipitation often is less than 12 inches. Consequently, it is essential to protect both the quantity and quality of water supplies. To this end, in 1992 the area’s water and wastewater providers joined together to share their talents and resources, assuming the name Western Coalition of Arid States or WESTCAS. A grassroots organization, WESTCAS is dedicated to encouraging the development of water programs and regulations which assure adequate supplies of high quality water for those living in the arid regions while protecting the environment.
Vision Statement
As the Voice of Water Quality in the Arid West, we will be:
- The premier, grassroots organization for the providers of drinking water and reclaimed water in the arid West.
- Trusted as a knowledgeable and responsible partner for safe drinking water and reclaimed water in our communities.
- An effective advocate of scientifically proven methods for environmentally-sound management of water resources and protection of public health.
- A significant contributor to committees, task forces, and action groups for sound science, legislation, appropriations, and policy on arid West water issues.
- A reliable source of accurate information about water quality needs and developments to our members and the public.
Mission Statement
WESTCAS is the Voice of Water Quality in the Arid West. As such, and on behalf of future generations, WESTCAS advocates wise use of water resources by promoting scientifically-sound laws, regulations, appropriations, and policies that protect public health and the environment in the arid West.
